Beyond Care

Beyond Care - the antidote to futility

Fr Bob knows that to some in our society there are people who are ‘unworthy’ to continuing support. They are the surviving casualties of the drug ‘wars’ of the late nineteen seventies and eighties, the street workers and people of the streets, the petty thieves and the physically and emotionally broken in all our neighbourhoods.

beyondcare_mandog50.pngThe original name of Beyond Care was ‘Futile’ Care that in medical jargon refers to life prolonging treatment without benefit to the patient. But the resilience that has carried these people into their later years entitles them to practical help to continue living and to find their way either back into society or into society - maybe the first time. Fr Bob believes that the alternative is often a lonely old age and an unnoticed, unmarked death.

Beyond Care offers ongoing help with food and shelter and it provides these ‘outsiders’ with a connection to the community to show them all that nobody is ‘Beyond Care’.

Beyond Care was founded in 2005 because a dozen former clients of Open Family had survived the years to face a drug free adulthood without personal, family, or community support. We will support them for the rest of their lives in anyway we can.
